บริษัท เมอร์ค จำกัด ก่อตั้งขึ้นในประเทศไทย เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2534 โดยการร่วมทุนระหว่างบริษัท เมอร์ค เคจีเอเอ ประเทศเยอรมนี และกลุ่ม บี กริม (ประเทศไทย) ถือเป็นการขยายกิจการของกลุ่มบริษัท เมอร์ค ซึ่งเป็นบริษัทชั้น นำเรื่องการค้นคว้าทางเวชภัณฑ์ และเคมีภัณฑ์ของเยอรมนี บริษัท เมอร์ค ประเทศไทย ดำเนินธุรกิจ ทางการค้าเวชภัณฑ์ และเคมีภัณฑ์ของบริษัท เมอร์ค เคจีเอเอ และกลุ่ม บริษัทในเครือ ซึ่งตั้งแต่เริ่มก่อตั้ง บริษัท มีผลประกอบการที่ดีแสดงถึงการเจริญเติบโตทาง ธุรกิจอย่างรวดเร็ว ปัจจุบันนี้ ถือได้ว่าเมอร์คเป็นบริษัทชั้นนำผู้นำเข้าเวชภัณฑ์ และเคมีภัณฑ์ เพื่อจัดจำหน่ายให้กับ โรงพยาบาล สถาบันการศึกษา และอุตสาหกรรมต่างๆ ในประเทศไทย ปรัชญาในการทำธุรกิจของบริษัท เมอร์ค จำกัด มีรากฐานมาจาก “ความเอาใจใส่”เราเข้าใจอย่างลึกซึ้งว่าการประสบความสำเร็จทางธุรกิจในระยะยาว นั้นต้องให้ ความห่วงใยเอาใจใส่ผู้ที่มีบทบาทสำคัญ อันได้แก่ พนักงาน ลูกค้า ผู้ถือหุ้น ตลอดจนสังคมที่อยู่อาศัย ในฐานะที่ เป็นบริษัทข้ามชาติที่มาดำเนินธุรกิจใน ประเทศไทย เมอร์ค จึงริเริ่มความร่วมมือระหว่างองค์การแคร์ประเทศไทย และมูลนิธิรักษ์ไทย เพื่อให้ความช่วยเหลือครอบครัว และชุมชนที่ยากจนให้หลุดพ้นจากความยากจน โดยมีความเชื่อ ร่วมกันว่า การช่วยเหลือผู้ที่ยากไร้และด้อยโอกาสเป็นสิ่งจำเป็น และการแก้ไขปัญหาความยากจนนั้น จะนำมาซึ่ง ความเป็นอยู่ที่ดีในสังคมนอกจากนี้ยังมีโครงการด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม พัฒนาชุมชน เด็ก และเยาวชน อีกด้วย

บริการวิจัยและพัฒนาเชิงวิทยาศาสตร์ด้านเทคโนโลยีการตรวจเชื้อโรคทางการเกษตรและการแพทย์ โดยมุ่งเน้นการวิจัยและพัฒนาเชิงพาณิชย์เพื่อผลิตและจัดจำหน่าย ผลิตภัณฑ์ชุดตรวจโรค โดยการตรวจหาสารพันธุกรรม (ดีเอ็นเอ) ในกลุ่มโรคติดเชื้อทางการแพทย์และเชื้อปนเปื้อนในอุตสาหกรรมอาหารและการเกษตร กลุ่มเป้าหมายหลักของบริษัทจะเป็นห้องปฏิบัติการจุลชีววิทยาในโรงพยาบาล บริษัทผลิตอาหารหรือห้องปฏิบัติการที่รับตรวจวิเคราะห์ตัวอย่าง ปัจจุบันบริษัทกำลังมุ่งเป้าไปที่ผลิตภัณฑ์ชุดตรวจดีเอ็นเอเชื้อดื้อยา (Zensoray) เนื่องจากเป็นปัญหาสำคัญของระบบสาธารณสุขทั่วโลก รวมถึงประเทศไทยด้วย
