Professor M.R. Jisnuson Svasti has been elected President of the Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of H.M. The King. The Science Society of Thailand has over 4,000 members and this year celebrates the 60th anniversary of its foundation. The society arranges the well-known annual Science and Technology of Thailand conferences with 1,500-3,000 participants, has several active academic and regional sections, and arranges many activities to promote science at schools, through teachers’ training programs and student science projects.
Professor Svasti is one of the few scientists in Thailand to have received the Dushdi Mala Medal in Science, awarded by H.M. The King for distinguished university staff who have made outstanding contributions to their field. Professor Svasti has also won numerous awards, including the Outstanding Scientist Award in 2002, Outstanding Researcher Award in 2003, and Outstanding Lecturer Award in 2005. He has played important roles in several scientific associations at national, regional and international level.
