Department of Biochemistry hosted a seminar by Professor Dr.Padma-Sheela Jayaraman and Professor Dr.Kevin L. Gaston.

On 31st January, 2020, Professor Dr.Padma-Sheela Jayaraman, Senior Lecturer of Cancer Biology, Institute of Cancer and Genomic Sciences, College of Medical and Dental Sciences, University of Birmingham, and Professor Dr.Kevin L. Gaston, Professor of Cancer Sciences, Division of Cancer and Stem Cells, School of Medicine, University of Nottingham Biodiscovery Institute, visited the Department of Biochemistry to share their insights in the role of Proline Rich Homeodomain (PRH) in Cholangiocarcinoma. Professor Jayaraman presented PRH as a novel driver of tumorigenesis in cholangiocarcinoma and a regulator of sensitivity to CDK 4/6 inhibition. Her prior work involves the functional and structural study of PRH in breast and prostate cancers using biophysical approaches. This was followed by Professor Gaston’s presentation regarding ‘The regulation of cell proliferation and cell migration by PRH/HHEX and protein kinase CK2.’ He has special interest to translate basic sciences to practical applications that aim to enhance human health including atherosclerosis and cancer. Professor Jayaraman and Professor Gaston’s group, as well as the Faculty of Science group comprising Associate Professor Rutaiwan Tohtong, Associate Professor Kanokpan Wongprasert and Professor Tavan Janvilisri, received the Newton-TRF grant to conduct research on cholangiocarcinoma during 2015-2019, afterwhich they continue to exchange and explore the possibility to form a stronger collaboration in the future.
