The 40th Anniversary of Dr. Saon Patumtevapibal’s Demise

To honor and remember the beloved lecturer, Dr. Saon Patumtevapibal’s 40th death anniversary gathering was held on 25 February 2020 by the ‘Dr. Saon Patumtevapibal Foundation’, at Room K102, Chalermprakiat Building, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, Phayathai Campus. This event aimed to raise funds and provide scholarships for students, as well as to pay homage to the beloved lecturer.

Dr. Suthiporn Patumtevapibal, President of the Dr. Saon Patumtevapibal Foundation, presided over the event. Professor Emeritus Dr. Rassameedara Hunsawat, Chairman of the organizing committee, delivered a report. The event included food offerings for the monks and a video presentation on Dr. Saon’s biography. On this occasion, Dr. Saon’s family, friends, students as well as scholarship recipients had an opportunity to reminisce and share their memories with Dr. Saon.

Dr. Saon Patumtevapibal was a lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, from 1974 to 1980. She passed away on 26 February 1980 in a fatal car accident. During her short span of working life, Dr. Saon dedicated her life to teaching university and high school students as well as helping underprivileged students. In 1978, she received ‘The Outstanding Lecturer’ award from Mahidol University. Most importantly, she had a highly commendable work ethic and was beloved by many.

In an effort to continue providing educational opportunities, the ‘Dr. Saon Patumtevapibal Funding’, established in 1981, aims to provide scholarships for underprivileged students. This has developed to become a foundation in 1992. As of now, the ‘Dr. Saon Patumtevapibal Foundation’ has supported over 800 high school and university students .
