The Visit of Delegation from ICBiotech, Osaka University

On 19 December 2019, Assoc. Prof. Palangpon Kongsaeree, MUSC Dean, welcomed Prof.Kazuhito Fujiyama and delegations from International Center for Biotechnology, Osaka University. Also joined in the session were representatives from the Department of Biochemistry, Department of Plant Sciences, Department of Pathobiology, and Department of Mathematics. The meeting focused on discussing the opportunities to strengthen existing collaborations and also the initiative for future collaboration in terms of student exchange and collaborative research.

The Visit of Delegation from Hokkaido University

On 12 December 2019, Assoc. Prof. Rutaiwan Tohtong, Acting Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication, welcomed Prof. Hiroshi Kawamura, Director, Office for International Academic Support (OIAS), Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University. Also joined in the session were lectures from Department of Biology, Department of Chemistry, Department of Physics, Department of Pathobiology, and School of Bioinnovation and Bio-based Product Intelligence.

The purpose of the visit was for MUSC staff and the delegation to seek an opportunity for the student exchange and internship under the Hokkaido Summer Institute 2020 program.

The opening of MU-CU PFAL Center

On November 29, 2019, Acting President, Mahidol University - Prof. Banchong Mahaisaviriya, Former president of Chiba University on behalf of President Takeshi Tokuhisa - Prof. Emeritus Toyoki Kozai, together with Dean, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University - Assoc. Prof. Sittiwat Lertsiri presided over the opening of MU-CU Collaborative Research and Training Center in Plant factory (MU-CU PFAL Center) .

The MU-CU PFAL Center is partly funded under the financial support from International Cooperation Development Mahidol University 2019 and Chiba University, which aims to develop human resource together with to promote science and technology and build-up capacity of researchers in the region, those who work in the field of protected horticulture and related areas through staff exchanges and trainings.

MUSC hosts Student Training Program for Kunming Medical University

MUSC hosted a delegation of 10 students and 2 lectures from Kunming Medical University, China, from November 25 to 29, 2019, for the short training program 'Science in Thai Culture and Medical STEM: from modelling to practice.'.

EASTEM meeting at MUSC

As part of EASTEM network to collaborate with foreign universities in order to enhance STEM education, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University hosted the WP2 meeting at Faculty of Science, Salaya campus from November 14 -16, 2019.

Participants from 4 countries gathered in Bangkok to continue and finalize their work on developing the development of the ToT course. (Work Package 2: Training lecturers in student-centered competence development.

MUSC opens Centre of Excellence in STEM Education

On November 14th, 2019, Assoc. Prof. Sittiwat Lertsiri, Dean of MUSC, presided over the opening ceremony of “MUSC Centre of Excellence in STEM Education” at Faculty of Science, Salaya Campus.

MUSC Centre of Excellence in STEM Education was established with the aim to promote STEM education that integrates knowledge from four fields: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in Thailand in order to increase STEM graduates that meet the demands of industry in 21st century.

To enhance STEM education, Mahidol University collaborates with 10 universities from Europe and Asia in “Euro-Asia Collaboration for Enhancing STEM Education (EASTEM)”, an Erasmus+ capacity building project (Key Action 2) running from 2019 – 2022. Sharing best practices and experiences among partners will further increase student-centered learning approaches in STEM education and increase the capacities of partner institutions to offer education focused on students’ needs and labour market requirements.

Mahidol University International Night 2019

Mahidol University held "Mahidol University International Night 2019" with the theme "Cultural Synergy" on October 25, 2019 at The Southeast Asia Music Museum, College of Music, Mahidol University.

The event included Mr.& Ms. International Night Contest, Special prize Draws & Games, and Cultural shows. On this occasion, Bhutanese students from the Faculty of Science performed a traditional dance of Bhutan.

The Visit of Delegation from Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC)

On 18 October 2019, Assoc. Prof. Sittiwat Lertsiri, Dean, together with Assoc. Prof. Kanyaratt Supaibulwattana, Vice Dean, and Dr. Nuttaphon Onparn, Deputy Dean for Education and Quality Development, welcomed Dr. Jose Paulo E. Campos, President of Emilio Aguinaldo College, Philippines. The purposes are to visit and discuss on a feasible collaboration on education, including to exchange information between two institutions.

The WP3 Meeting: EASTEM Project

During 30 September – 3 October 2019, Assoc. Prof. Kanyaratt Supaibulwatana – Vice Dean, Assts. Prof. Somkid Amornsamarnkul – Deputy Dean for Administration, together with Ms. Rungrat Suriyin – International relations officer attended the WP3 Meeting: Euro – Asia Collaboration for Enhancing STEM Education (EASTEM), at Vilnius University, Lithuania. The purposes are to discuss and decide on guidelines for STEM centers in order to develop and set up Centers for Excellence in STEM Education at universities in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.

On 18 September 2019, Assoc. Prof. Kanyaratt Supaibulwatana, Vice Dean, welcomed Dr.Kihoko Tokue, Managing Director, Science Bridge Communicator, Career Research Center, Leave a Nest. The objective is to explore and discuss a possible collaboration on organizing the QPMI workshop และ Science Bridge Communicator Program between MUSC and Leave a Nest.

The 6th TICA Connect "SDGs 17: Partnerships for the Sustainable Development"

Assoc. Prof. Kanyaratt Supaibulwatana, Vice Dean, and Mr. Sethavudh Kaewviset, an international relations officer, attended The 6th TICA Connect "SDGs 17: Partnerships for the Sustainable Development" , organised by the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) , at The Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty the King 80 th Birthday Anniversary, 5th December, B.E. 2550 (2007) Chaeng Watthana Road, on 12 September 2019.

MUSC International Students attend Cultural Learning Program at Thai Human Imagery Museum

Seventeen international students of Faculty of Science, Mahidol University attended a cultural learning program at Thai Human Imagery Museum, Nakhon Pathom Province, on September 4, 2019.

Organized by Office of International Cooperation, the trip aims to enhance international student’s participatory learning through activities and strengthen the relationship among MUSC’s international students.

On 28 August 2019, Assoc. Prof. Kanyaratt Supaibulwatana, Vice Dean, welcomed the Awardees from The 1st Symposium for the Distinguished Lectureship Awards on the International Cutting-Edge Organic Chemistry in Asia.

On this occasion, the awardees from South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong visited Department of Chemistry, MUSC, to discuss feasibility on academic exchange.

On 28 August 2019, Mahidol University has partnered with Thai Union Group PCL to offer a scholarship scheme for international graduate students as part of a science and technology initiative project in human resource development.

Closer collaboration with School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Tianjin University

On 31 July 2019, Assoc. Prof. Sittiwat Lertsiri, Dean, warmly welcomed Prof.Jay Siegel, Dean of School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, Tianjin University, P.R. China, and Prof.Kim Baldridge Vice Dean. The meeting coincided with the MOU signing ceremony between two institutions.

Macquarie University delegation were visiting for the Mahidol University – Macquarie University Science, Technology and Engineering Joint Symposium from 25th – 26th July 2019. The objectives are to exchange knowledge and research outcomes in science and technology area and to discuss feasible collaborations.

The 5th International Conference on Education, Psychology and Social Studies

MUSC-IC Team attended The 5th International Conference on Education, Psychology and Social Studies, Hokkaido, Japan, during 16-18 July 2019.

On this occasion, Mr. Sethavudh Kaewviset gave an oral presentation on the topic entitled 'Encouragement of Professional Skill and International Environment of the University Supporting Staff using Activity-based Forum and Workshop' and Ms. Rungrat Suriyin also presented on the topic entitled ' Motivation in Science and Technology Education for Medical Students by Nobel Laureate Lecture'

On this occasion, Prof. Shojiro Nishio along with the delegation from Osaka University had a chance to visit Mahidol University – Osaka University Collaborative Research Center for Bioscience and Biotechnology, MUSC.

Assoc. Prof. Sittiwat Lertsiri, Dean, welcomed Dr. Raphaël Rodriguez, The Institut Curie, Research Center, PSL University, on 17 June 2019. Dr. Raphaël Rodriguez was awarded the Tetrahedron Young Investigator Awards in 2019 for Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry.

Co-ordinated with The Embassy of France in Thailand and Center of Excellence for Innovation in Chemistry, MUSC hosted the lecture titled 'Reprogramming the reactivity of iron in cancer cells', presented by Dr. Raphaël Rodriguez. More than 90 MUSC students, staff and faculty members were interested in joining this event. Furthermore, Dr. Rodriguez and MUSC faculty members actively discussed and explored potential areas of collaboration between MUSC and PSL Research University.
