The Overseas Internship Course @ MUSC 2013, March 18-24th, 2013

The Faculty of Science, Mahidol University
 
                 As Mahidol University is well-known internationally for its science research and capacity to produce
knowledgeable and social-responsible graduate students, therefore, during March, 18th-24th, 2013 the Faculty
of Sciences, Mahidol University, welcomed the participants (undergraduate students, graduate students and
faculty staff) from Chiba University and Niigata University, Japan to join the Overseas Internship Course @
MUSC-2013 at the Faculty of Science, Mahidol University. The program was hold for the objectives that aimed
to globalize academic resources internationally, including mobilize students by covering international exchange
course to encourage recognition of global citizenship, and promote knowledge exchanging on Self Sufficient
Economy Theory and its impact on Agriculture, Food Security and Environment. The course provided activities
that encourage the participants to interchange academic experiences during seminar, practice different cases in
the field study, and also delightfully join cultural learning activities among Thai and Overseas students.
                 The program covered 4 main activities, which are Special Lectures by the outstanding researchers
on the 18th March 2013 for demonstrating how does the principle of Self Sufficient Economy Theory involves its
efficient roles on science researches and lead to the proper implementation for solving the problems,
successfully improving people life, entrepreneur and community development in Thailand. Follow to the lectures,
the Student Joint Seminarduring 19-20th, which presented by both Thai and Overseas participants in 4
different sessions related to Scientific Impacts on Agriculture, Food Security and Sustainable Environment were
fruitful through oral presentations and scientific discussions among students and faculties. 
                 In honouring His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej for his compassion, knowledge, and
dedication to helping Thai people by contribution Self Sufficient Economy Philosophy, the illustrations of the best
practices initiated by the Royal projects were demonstrated. The program covered the Study Trips to Royal
Chitralada Projects, the field trips to ‘Chang Hua Mun Royal project’, and the Sirindhorn International
Environmental Park in Petchburi province during 21-23rd of March as the Royal projects observation and field
study. The participants were encouraged in actively attending all activities that aim to promote the senses of
‘Global Citizenship’ such as activity for social responsibility by reforestation, cultural exchanges, Thai life style
and historical study, etc. The program has encouraged share visions among students and faculties with the local
community about the significant of the global agricultural development, food security and environmental
sustainability, as well as promotes better understanding between different backgrounds, nationalities and
cultures, where the harmony in diversity is one of the core philosophies of Mahidol University. All Thai and
Overseas students from various nationalities include Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Myanmar, and Timor
Leste were offered to exchange their academic knowledge and cultural aspects through the field trips, cultural
study, and voluntary activities for the benefits of all mankind.
