MUSC Successfully Organized “Joint Symposium on Frontier Research in |
Biodiversity and Agricultural Resources”, 6-7 November 2014

The Faculty of Science, Mahidol University (MUSC), in collaboration with local
universities and regional academic partner institutions – the University of Sussex, UK,
Chiba University, Japan and the University of Surabaya, Indonesia, successfully held the
“Joint Symposium on Frontier Research in Biodiversity and Agricultural Resources”,
during 6-7 November 2014 at MUSC, Phayathai, Bangkok. |

The symposium covered contemporary issues in biodiversity, including biodiversity towards
natural resources, biodiversity and sustainable environments as well as frontier research in plants, animals,
insects and aqua biotechnology. This symposium offered a great opportunity for scientists, researchers,
lecturers and students to present research findings, discuss, share current thinking and develop productive
partnerships in the regions. There were approximately 100 participants from MUSC, local universities, |
partner universities in Asia together with a number of invited speakers from abroad in attendance.
A keynote lecture was “Hornbills and their role in regenerating and sustaining forest ecosystem”,
interestingly delivered by Professor Emeritus Pilai Poonswad, a Thai Conservation Scientist who is widely
recognized as an outstanding researcher for her excellent researches in ornithology, wildlife ecology and
parasitology(Avian diseases). Fourteen oral presentations and thirty-four poster presentations were
presented respectively. |

This Joint Symposium is one of the visible potential strategies of the Faculty of Science that tended to
promote its research findings and academic services among national and international communities, through
a variety of public communications. Knowledge sharing is one of the most effective activities that has long been
driving and put MUSC into the forefront, also considered as a crucial factor responding to social responsibility
to be an international learning organization in this 21st century. |
